Example: Filming a person sitting still in a chair is more affordable than filming that same person tied to a chair, in a burning building, while George Clooney guest stars as the blind fireman who's intent on rescuing everyone in said blazing inferno.  You get the idea.

www.mattodomcreative.com was hired to provide video coverage of a 5 day event, in downtown Los Angeles, called the Hyundai Veloster Remix Lab.  Each day featured a various events such as concerts, DJ's, parties, Q&A panels, Art Exhibits, etc.  In addition to the video coverage, we were contracted to generate edited "recaps" of each event, within 48 hours of the completion of each event.  So for a number of days, we were shooting and editing in tandem.  Here are two samples of the final 11 video recaps submitted to client.

After seeing Dead Sara perform at Sunset Sessions, I knew I wanted to work with them. I pitched the band a few treatments, and we opted for a ballsy, live performance style video that would showcase the energy and grittiness of the band. For more information on the band, go to deadsara.com

We shot a ton of bands at "Sunset Sessions Rock!" this year. For me personally, this was one of my favorite performances. Dead Sara is the real deal. If you EVER have a chance to check them out... DO IT.

It was an awesome experience shooting Nate for this video. Both Nate and Niki (our actress) had to endure an uncommonly cold L.A. day, and act like it was sunny and warm. It was a long 12 hour shoot day, but they both came through like champs! Keep an eye out for this video on MTV!

K.D. LANG AT MICHELE CLARK'S SUNSET SESSIONS 2011

At the invitation of Michele Clark, I had the distinct pleasure of shooting all the performers at Sunset Sessions 2011, in Carlsbad, CA.  There were over 40 live performances in 72 hours, and I got to shoot most of them. There are so many favorites, but this one really stands out.  K.D Lang is an icon, and her performance of Hallelujah does not dissapoint.  To see lots of the other performances, go to Sunset Session's YouTube stream.... 

LUCENT DOSSIER - BOOM 2010

I was hired by Lucent Dossier to travel with them to the Boom Festival in Portugal and to produce a short video that would featured their festival performances. Cut to "ANDROID PORN", an original song created by Kraddy, the result is a heart pounding, visceral edit that teases the eyes and ears. Lucent Dossier are AMAZING.  It's a circus.  It's performance art.  It's surreal.  It's heart pounding.  This trip was an unbelievable experience!

 

DORITOS COMMERCIAL ENTRY - "FINGER BOY"

Todd Goldman, Niki Huey & I worked on this commercial entry for the Doritos Super Bowl contest.  We filmed this in Hollywood Hills in an afternoon.  We didn't win, but we still maintain that "Finger Boy" would have been a massive hit as a Doritos marketing campaign.

 

LAUREN + JP WEDDING VIDEO (Ashton Kutcher tweeted this as the "best wedding video ever"!)

This video was a game changer.  I wondered what would happen if I created a music video using footage from someone's wedding, rather than thinking about creating a wedding video cut to music.  It seemed like a fresh way to think about documenting a wedding video.  When I put this out, I had no idea much it would resonate so positively with people all over the place.  Overnight, it became a viral success.  Ashton Kutcher tweeted it as "the best wedding video I've ever seen...".  It was featured on the home page of AOL as a must see video.  Wedding blogs around the world picked up on it, and it's been loaded over a million times.  The success of this video has led to other wedding video projects, which are all chronicled on my wedding centric company: www.rockandrollhearts.com

The song "Eula Mae" performed by The Whiskey Gentry at the Five Spot, in Atlanta, GA. June, 4, 2010.  Our goal was to produce a live performance that captures the massive wall of sound and energy that The Whiskey Gentry generate at each show.  You'd think you were at a punk show, rather than a blue grass show! BRIGHT LIGHTS BY HEAVY MOJO

 Heavy Mojo have been banging out gritty rock infused hip hop for the past decade.  I'd shot a number of promotional photos for them over the years, so when they approached me about doing a video for their new single "Bright Lights", I jumped at it.  I enlisted the help of my friend and uber talented Director and DP Eric De Fino.  We put together a video that was meant to match the frenetic, almost paranoid, pace and tone of the track.  I think it's the first video that truly captures what Heavy Mojo is actually like in concert.  Heavy Mojo on Myspace.

 

FOUR HORSEMEN BY WHISKEY GENTRY

This video was shot on location in Dahlonega, GA (at an old gold mine) and in Atlanta, GA at an old factory that is now known as the Goat Farm.  All the lighting is natural, except the interior of the mine, where we used the lights on the top of the miner's hard hats. A very cool shoot, with a very talented band.

 

 

TANYA HARDING BY THE COATHANGERS

This was my first project where I started to move from still photography to motion.  The entire video is done using still photographs, manually synced to the beat of the song, resulting in a lo-fi, DIY aethestic that totally fit the personality of The Coathangers.  The Coathangers continue to do amazing work and you should definitely check them out at http://thecoathangers.com/ .
